Escape! Launches!

Our magazine, Escape!, previously known as Jambalaya, recently launched and has been selling out everywhere. So grab one if you can still find it around. Guaranteed to be a collector's item or your money back.

It collects some original stories, as well as some reprints and updates from the comics sections of the Herald and the YDN, namely:

Quiet Glen Mind Police

Unfortunately, the printed issue wasn't the most updated version of the magazine sent to the printers, so we lost a few key updates, most importantly that our cover artist is the indomitable Jinjin. Not only did she do the cover (pictured), an original story called "Hitchiker," and contribute/update some fantastic Dead Squirrel Shenanigans, but she also did a ton of the behind the scenes layout and Treasurer stuff. So this magazine would literally not have been possible without her. So hats off, as always, to Jinjin.

Herald Comics Submissions Policy

Ok, if you want to comics for the Herald, here's our submissions policy and some information. Obey.

REQUIREMENTS:
First look me up and email: your title (does it change?), how you want your name to appear, and your CELL NUMBER. Stop by Comics Club (Thurs 8.30 @ LC) to make life easier. NO COMMITMENT; submit whenevs.

DEADLINES
Any Thursday night to be published that week's Friday. Text/call me in a pinch.

DIMENSIONS (please do NOT submit anything bigger than):
Strips (left page) : 9 5/8 x 3 in
BigBox (right): 6.75 x 4.75 in

--------STRIPS--------

FOUR PANELS are crucial for comic strips since we need the flexibility to place them on either page at four in the morning when all heck is breaking loose. You can also do TWO PANELS if they are both HALF the entire length. You can slightly fudge with the height a little, but do not mess with the length, please.

--------BigBox--------

Try to fill up as much of the panel space as possible. Don't get any bigger in height/length than 6.75 x 4.75 in and try not to get any smaller than 4 5/8 x 5 3/4 in.

WARNING: Color or b/w's fine, but the Herald's printers tend to blur color!

EDITORIAL POLICY:
If there're > 4 comics in a given week, I pick which get stockpiled and which get printed.

FINAL THOUGHT:
Please have either beautiful or funny comics, preferably both! Just bring your A-game!

...Seriously. Let's own.

Comics Club SUPPLIES you with the goods: sketchpads, pencils, pens, pizza. You name it.

Comics Club and Herald Comics traditionally share quite an overlap, and the Club is a good training ground for aspiring Heralders to practice.

So hone your skills at the club so you can shine in the Herald, home of the best comics in the Ivy League slash world!

This is one of the last drawings I did as a JE freshman. It was a gift, too.

I don't know a whole lot about Harry Potter, so I asked around for information to help make this piece as accurate as possible. My research team gave positive feedback, so that was nice.

Fun fact: I was racing until about 4 or 5 in the morning trying to get this piece done for the last day of the class I'd see the recipient at. After I delivered it, I realized that there was still the weekend plus Monday left of the class...

That's life.

Workin' on my Photoshop--been putting the tablet to good use. I'm still not too thrilled with what's been coming out, but I think I'm improving. =D

All from scratch--no scanned base sketch, no references (though I'm sure that shows quite plainly. XD)

This is one of my final Record pieces for the year, for an article about Turduckens--the Thanksgiving food that is a duck stuffed into a chicken, stuffed into a turkey. The author writes about the prehistoric ancestors of this fabled combo creature, and so here's the art.

Easter Eggs: Some names appear hidden in the trees under the volcano.

My imagined turducken has the signature anatomical features of each bird--chicken mohawk, turkey cheek droopies, slick-back duck tails, and duck feet.

Look for this in the upcoming Food Issue of the Yale Record!

Well, we're just about ready to turn in the art for the last issue of the Yale Record for this year, so upon reflection, this is definitely my favorite piece I did for them this year.

They liked how I placed these guys in front of a Hot Topic, and the keen-eyed can see the establishment's unique Open placard...

The guy on the left is dressed in homage to Loide's Carpe Diem character. After reading her story in Jambalaya, I instantly knew I wanted to join Comics Club. And so here we are.

Yep, looks like adding our personal gmail accounts as authors works great.

Anyway, here's an image from a few days ago, when Annika and I were testing something. Painted in PS CS2, playing around with brushes. AND MY NEW TABLET CAME TODAY SO TEARS OF HAPPY FOR ME.
